Off to a Great Start Girls
After family discussions, back and forths and "pretty pleases" from the girls, we have pulled together an Upper Maitland Mustangs girls novice team!  Thank you to all the parents for your consent and support!

And proud parents we all should be after the great performance the girls put on Sunday in Monkton as we defeated Mitchell Meteors HL team 8-2!
Mitchell got on the board early in the first, but it didn't take long for Megan Buchanan to even things up with an assist from Alyssa Beirnes.  The girls continued to dominate the play in the opposing end adding another 4 goals by the end of the second period.  Alex Brooks's strong playing tactics and speed got her 3 points and Taylor Gibson added the 4th with help from Kailyn Armstrong, Rylie Williams, and Alexa Tout.  Allison Rogers played strong in the net to keep us ahead with a 5-1 lead.

We started of the third period crowding the puck and forgetting to use the whole ice surface.  A. Brooks was able to put another one in the net, but Mitchell followed her lead and were able to sneak one past Rogers soon after.  After some discussion on the bench, the girls spread out and focused on their positions.  Kennedy Brooks and Jayla Heimpel were able to add two more to the tally with help from Gibson and Buchanan.  Isabelle Meulensteen and Zayden Heffer worked hard for their team and tough defensive playing by Katrina Hartung, Alexa McNevan, and Harlee Stevens helped Rogers keep the puck out of our net for a 8-2 victory!

Special congratulations goes to Adeline Todd for her great effort to keep up with the experienced team of girls in skating, passing, shooting and offsides during her very first hockey game ever!  What a great improvement from the start to the finish of the game.  Way to go!

On behalf of many, I must say you all did a great job working together with only 2 practices.  You all came together so well as a team.  The coaching staff look forward to helping you develop your hockey skills while enjoying a new kind of hockey with all girls!  Great start to the season girls!
