Stratford Aces Tournament
The Mustangs had a very exciting weekend playing a total of 5 games over 2 and a half-gruelling days.  For a team with only 10 skaters, this was no easy feat. The tournament was an important "measuring stick" as coaching staff were eager to see how our team stacked up against the other Huron-Perth "C" teams they will have to face for provincial playdowns in February.

The girls held their own finishing 2-1-1 at the end of round robin play.  This put them in a 3-way tie for 2nd place (out of 8 teams) and a berth in the semi-finals on Sunday.

The Mustangs not only proved they can compete, but surprised many with their level of play.  Coaches were asked several times "Who are the Upper Maitland Mustangs and where are they from?"  The girls did a fantastic job of putting their organization on the map as legit contenders.

Friday morning began with a close 4-3 loss to eventual tournament champs-Mitchell with Lucy receiving the player of the game award.  Friday afternoon was a 5-1 win over Sarnia with Katrina receiving the honours for that game.

Saturday morning began with an exciting 1-0 win over Waterloo with the lone goal scored by player of the game-Isabelle.  Saturday evening finished in a nail-biting 0-0 tie vs. Huron Heat as Allie won player of the game, recording her 2nd straight shutout of the tournament.

Sunday morning's semi final was a disappointing 4-1 loss to undefeated Mitchell who went 6-0 on the weekend.  The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead scored by player of the game
Jayla, but unfortunately, fatigue set in and the girls could not keep pace with the eventual champs.

Forwards-Maddy; Chloe; Alyssa & Thea all battled behind the net; made good passes through the neutral zone; and back-checked well to help their defense when the puck was in our end.

Defenders-Hanna & Kailyn held the blue line well in the offensive zone; tied up sticks in front of their own net; and made several key plays on the back end throughout the weekend.

The girls had a lot of fun going out for team meals and are really looking forward to their next tournament!  The Mustangs are improving with every game and will take the lessons learned from this weekend with them going forward.

Your coaches were very proud of the way you played!
