OWHA COVID 19 UPDATE
Hello Upper Maitland Families,

Last evening the OWHA issued an update to their vaccination policy for the upcoming season (a copy of their correspondence is included below).  They are now mandating that all patrons (including spectators ages 12+) of the arena must provide proof of vaccination upon entry. Although the provincial government says that youth actively participating in sport do not have to provide proof of vaccination, the revised mandate from OWHA has made it a requirement that all persons born in 2009 or earlier provide proof of vaccination to participate.

We understand that this will impact many of our players and if this changes your mind about being registered for hockey this season we understand and ask that you please let us know ASAP if you would like to withdraw your registration and a full refund will be issued.  We ask that you please let us know if you would like to withdraw by October 3 to receive a full refund.

It is unfortunate that things are this way, our hope truly was that every child that wanted to play hockey got to play hockey this season.  Please do not be upset with our executive members, who are all volunteers, we are only following the protocols that have been put in place by our governing bodies.  Please remember when you are communicating with our volunteers, other parents and arena staff to be respectful and patient.  It is frustrating for everyone involved.

Thank you for your support as we work through the next few weeks to get our teams put together for a safe and fun return to hockey.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

COVID-19 Update

On Monday, September 27, 2021, the OWHA met with Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Province of Ontario. Pursuant to this meeting, effective immediately, it is mandatory, as a condition of eligibility to participate in any OWHA-sanctioned activity, that everyone born in 2009 and earlier must be fully vaccinated (2 shots plus 14 days) as soon as possible and by no later than November 1, 2021. This includes all players, staff and volunteers, including coaches, trainers and officials. The only exemption from this requirement is for two specific medical reasons. The full policy reflecting these rules will be posted shortly on OWHA’s website.
